Snow belt denizens can attest that foul weather doesn’t last all year — and you don’t have to live in California or Florida to enjoy open-top motoring. But unless you plan to garage your ride from turkey to corned beef season, drop-top cars, most of which employ rear-wheel drive, aren’t ideal. A good set of all-season or winter tires can increase viability, especially if you live somewhere roads are regularly plowed. But for true all-season capability, a handful of automakers offer convertibles with all-wheel drive.

Sixteen models offer a convertible body style with AWD for the 2020 model year. Note, of course, that the road-hugging profile on most convertibles makes for little ground clearance — an impediment in deep snow regardless of AWD. The exception is the Jeep Wrangler, the market’s sole remaining convertible SUV. Yes, that’s a thing — and if it’s more your style, a few discontinued examples also fit the bill.
