Mahindra & Mahindra is working rigorously on the next-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar SUV and it could have its world premiere at the Auto Expo in February. It has been on test runs for quite some time now and has been frequently spotted wearing camouflage. Recently, it was spied with, what appears to be, newly designed five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels which were shod with 235 or 245-section tires.
The spy-images have confirmed that 2020 Mahindra Thar will be available with both hard and soft top. It is further being learned that the second-row seats will be front-facing as compared to the current model’s side facing bench seats which lack comfort and support. However, the entry-level variants will continue to be offered with the same side facing bench seats and a soft top.
The second-gen Mahindra Thar is going to be bigger in terms of dimensions than the ongoing model. Having a higher presence on the road will be longer and wider than the preceding model. The company will retain the retro look of the Thar with designing cues taken from Jeep Wrangler.
Underpinning an all-new ladder frame platform, the new-gen Mahindra Thar will come with better safety features and driving dynamics. The off-roading capabilities will also be higher due to the new frame. The cabin will be much modern and advanced than the current model with a new dashboard which will feature a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Safety features will include dual front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), front seatbelt reminder and rear parking sensors as standard. Under the hood, there will be a BS 6 certified 2.0L diesel engine which will also power the new XUV500 and Scorpio models in the future.
